Domestic Violence Awareness Month - Out of the Shadows: Serving High-risk Communities

Date: Oct. 3, 2017 by Aileen Josephs

Domestic Violence Awareness Month
October - domestic violence awareness month. Surrounded by my friends- victim advocates in our County -engaged with The safety net program at HomeSafe.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month evolved from the “Day of Unity” held in October, 1981. The intent was to connect advocates across the country who were working to end violence against women and their children. The Day of Unity soon became an entire week devoted to a range of activities conducted at the local, state and national level.

West Palm Beach - On October 3rd, 2017 a proclamation was granted for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Palm Beach County.

The ceremony took place at the Clayton Hutchison Agriculture Center Exhibit Hall where attorney Aileen Josephs was the keynote Speaker. The event was organized by the Domestic Violence Council of Palm Beach County.

More information about Domestic Violence Awareness Month can be found at The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV).
